2019 is already a huge year for South Kitsap DECA. On January 17th, over 64 members of SK DECA made their way to the Greater Tacoma Conference Center to compete in the Area 7 Competition.

What Went Down…

South Kitsap was prepared to compete against the other schools in our region. The conference center was overflowing with DECA activity, 841 members arrived and were ready to take home DECA gold. Each student participates in an individual or team role-play event. Students are evaluated on their ability to analyze one or a combination of elements essential to the effective operation of a business in a specific career area. The business situation is presented as a case study and students present their ideas in a role-play scenario to volunteer business professionals. Students have a short period to create a solution and present to the judge. The rush of thinking on their feet gets all the students so excited. After the role play is finished, all that is left is to wait for awards.

Once the award ceremony began, every DECA member had nerves running up and down their spine. Waiting and waiting to know if they q4ualified for the State DECA Career Development Conference, or SCDC, in Bellevue. Right off the get-go, SK DECA was dominating the stage. South Kitsap DECA had nine students finish first, fifteen students finish second, and three students finish third. SKHS also had 25 students place 4-9, qualifying them for the State DECA Conference. The expressions of the state qualifiers were priceless and will never be forgotten. Our chapter only strives for success. All together SK DECA has a final 48 members qualified for SCDC, we are ecstatic. Smiles were seen on every face.

Area 7 Champs!

The 2019 Area 7 competition will go down in history for South Kitsap DECA. Paige Ohman and Carson West placed first with the highest scores in our area. This was the most successful year we have had. South Kitsap qualifiers are anticipating our upcoming state conference, hoping for success at the next level of competition. SCDC takes place February 28th to March 2nd, wish us luck. Without a doubt, SK DECA will remember this competition for the rest of their lives.

SCDC, South Kitsap is coming for you!
