What a weekend for South Kitsap DECA! The group of 53 competitors traveled to the state competition in Bellevue. The excitement began Thursday night when Paige Ohman was awarded the first-ever Envision Scholarship, earned from her application entered earlier in the year. Stress levels were high on Saturday as the students waited to hear the announcer summon them to the stage during the awards ceremony. A total of nine South Kitsap DECA members received the news that they will be advancing to the international competition in Orlando, Florida this April.

Congratulations to:

  • Anna Hong (1st place, International Business Plan)
  • Paige Ohman (3rd place, Marketing Communications Individual Series)
  • Gabriel Nogoy (3rd place, Principles of Hospitality and Tourism)
  • Cullen Shoquist (4th place, Apparel & Accessories)
  • Madeline Hickle (5th place, Accounting)
  • Katherine Hickle, Madeline Hickle, and Casandra Hebert (6th place, Start-Up Business Plan)
  • Rowan Morris and Emily Irvine (6th place, Community Service Project)

This is the most success South Kitsap DECA has had at the State competition in many years. There was also a great increase in the number of subcategory finalists. Congratulations to Emmeline Hutchinson, Bradyn Bradley, Cameron Hill, Malia Braaten, Brooke Zamberlin, and Kevin Ranganbay for this accomplishment.

Carson West and Paige Ohman qualified South Kitsap for the School-Based Enterprise Recertification, advancing West to Internationals as well. A special thank you to Betsi Feider, the advisor of SK DECA, who dedicates countless hours to this group of high school students. The year is not over for South Kitsap DECA as we look forward to April 26, when the group departs.
