Principal Diane Fox of South Kitsap High School announced today that Anya Fogel and Jacob Geiger have been named as Commended Students in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation conducts the program and sent letters of notification to the school.

“I have tremendous respect for the important part educators play in the development of academically talented young people, and it is a pleasure to honor both Jacob and Anya for their efforts in school,” stated principal Diane Fox. “I asked both students what makes a difference for them in school and they noted an exceptionally caring staff and the willingness teachers have to work with them in any capacity needed.”

Commended Students are recognized for the exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the PSAT. While Anya and Jacob will not continue in the competition for National Merit scholarships, they are part of 50,0000 highest scorers from the over 1.6 million students who took the PSAT last Fall. The students were recognized at the school earlier today.

“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
