This is an SKHS PIPA ASB Fundraiser.

WHAT IS PIPA?

PIPA is an art therapy club that stands for PAIN INTO PURPOSE through the ARTS.

It was created as a response to a handful of students who had endured such severe trauma in their young lives, they were struggling just to exist each day.

This club was born out of a desperate need to create a safe environment for students to come make art, share struggles, and make new friends. In PIPA, students engage in the creative process as a means to find healing, and also serve the greater community.

 PROJECTS:

During our first year, we focused on projects designed for the homeless population. We made blankets and painted shoes for this specific population. This year, students would like to put together “Care Kits” for the homeless that would include toiletries, first aid supplies, fresh socks, and more. We are also in the midst of knitting hats and scarves to add to these kits during these freezing cold months of winter.

Students would also like to build a Take-a-Book-Leave-a-Book Library for South Kitsap Highschool. This project will allow students to exchange books on mental health or any genre, and it will provide enrichment for years to come.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

These kids are truly inspirational and their creative ideas for impacting the community in a positive way are endless BUT…we need your help.

We need money for basic supplies so that we are able to execute all of the amazing project ideas. If we are able to raise just $500 dollars, we would be able to make homeless care kits, build a small library, and purchase miscellaneous crafts supplies for various enriching projects.

When students come to PIPA, they learn that they can lessen their pain and even find joy by helping others. What some of these students have endured, does not need to define the rest of their lives. They can use whatever experiences they have gone through in life to develop compassion for themselves and for others who are struggling. They learn that they can transform their Pain Into a greater Purpose. For some, this notion could be life changing.

Thank you for supporting a great cause that will have a lasting impact on students and the community for years to come!!

Thank you for your generous donation.

 Sincerely,

Sarah O’Connell (SKHS Visual Arts Teacher) and the members of PIPA
